Marldon was originally set up around the turn of the millennium by a group of enthusiastic dads, and footballers local to the village including Matt Hockley (of Torquay United) and Adam Faulkner.

Having noticed lots of village children were playing football together on the village meadow but involved with different local teams, the vision was to give the children in the village their own club to play for.

“We put a poster up and invited children to come train at the meadow and we had over twenty kids turn up. We kept putting on training each week and more and more turned up.”

early years

The first year Marldon had a mixed age of 10s and 11s, just friends playing together, the club emblem was designed by the players.

It was that community spirit that was commended by others, and within a few years the club had added a handful of teams and was the first team in the county to achieve FA charter status in 2002.

2005 onwards

The club continued to grow under the clubs second full time chairman, the profile was raised by producing some stand out teams in the local youth league, resulting in development of a couple of players that have gone onto have professional careers.

The meadow in Marldon wasn’t able to sustain the growth of the teams, and it was in this era that we took our senior youth teams to white rock.

2015 onwards

The third full time chairman was keen to pursue the community culture that gve the club its initial success, the motivation has been to get a team for every age group, and sustain 9 teams, as well as supporting the rise of girls football. In order to accommodate the clubs growing needs, the club made a home of Paignton College enabling weekly training on the all weather pitch.

Many of the coaches and volunteers of the club started off kicking a ball around at the meadow in Marldon. The inclusive values and friendship shape what we can become, but that can only happen with your help and support.
